I would never have guessed that an artichoke flower would look like this! I’d love to see a field of these all in bloom.

The more I use the Tamron 18-250mm on my Samsung GX-10 the more I like it…

This is just another picture of the Notre-Dame-des-Anges church in Collioure (South France) but it’s got those three boats in the foreground. If you’ve been to this area I think you’ll know what I mean. Every artist in the area seems to have painted views of Collioure and most of those have three brightly coloured boats in the foreground. I’d always put that down to artistic licence until I went to take this picture and there they were!

I went to close my curtains last night at about 9:45pm and noticed that there was an incredible sunset taking place. It was fast disappearing so I grabbed my camera and ran up the road to where I thought I could get a decent shot. I didn’t have time for a tripod so I used manual ISO to allow me to get a fast enough shutter-speed for a handheld shot. I wanted to expose for the sky so I pointed the camera skyward and used the AE Lock to fix the exposure and then recomposed the shot.

I’d like to say that I tracked this antelope across the plains of Africa but it was actually taken at Newquay Zoo in Cornwall. It’s another one using the Tamron 18-250mm – I don’t think this lens will be off my camera very often.

Here’s the first posted picture taken with my new Tamron 18-250mm zoom lens. I used the lens for the first time last weekend and so far so good. It’s quite a bit bigger around than the kit 50-200mm lens and feels a bit heavier but as a walkabout lens I think it’s going to be perfect. It’s great to have access to a larger zoom range again without swapping lenses.

This picture was taken at the full extent of the 250mm zoom but to my eye it still looks pretty good. If you’re interested in the full EXIF info and want to see a larger view then click through to my Zenfolio gallery.

Collioure is one of my favourite places when we visit the south of France. It’s incredibly scenic and I could spend hours there taking photographs. There must be countless photos taken of the Notre-Dame-des-Anges church which is a converted lighthouse. This one is a little bit different as in the foreground is a boat carved into one of the stones along the breakwater opposite the church.
